In addition to a broad technical base, each member of the Copper Environmental team is dedicated to leading projects with the highest standard of safety to co-workers and clients.
Dave McCarthy – President
Dave is the founder and president of Copper Environmental Consulting with 20 years of experience in mining-related water treatment system design, management, operation, and maintenance. His expertise is in environmental project management, soil reclamation on mining and residential properties, surface water sampling and analysis programs, and managing all aspects of large Superfund mining projects. In addition to his technical expertise, Dave is skilled in economic analysis and project budgeting, project and personnel management, and strategy development. Dave holds M.S. and B.S. degrees in Environmental Engineering from Montana Tech and is a certified Industrial Wastewater Treatment System Operator in Montana.
Michael Mahon, P.E. – Principal Engineer
Mike brings 20 years of technical and project management experience in civil and environmental engineering. His expertise includes civil engineering design and construction management for mine reclamation, water distribution, wastewater systems, storm water management, and land development projects. With extensive experience as a Senior Project Manager and company Owner/Principal, Mike’s abilities include directing professional and technical staff, project development, and cultivating and maintaining positive relations with multiple clients/agencies. Mike holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Montana Tech and is a registered Professional Engineer in MT, AZ, and UT.
Jim Jonas – Principal Engineer/Geochemist
Jim has 15 years of experience specializing in the characterization and remediation of mining-impacted water and soil. His expertise is in the evaluation and oversight of water, soil, and groundwater treatment pilot studies, pit lake limnology and characterization, bioremediation research, and geochemical analytical instrumentation and methodology. Jim is also skilled in multiple computer programming languages, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and complex data analysis in various database environments. Jim received his B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering from Montana Tech.
Brian Park – Principal Engineer
Brian brings more than 30 years of experience with technical expertise in mine water treatment process development, geochemical and limnological modeling, and process technical evaluation and economic analysis. Relevant project experience includes pit lake in situ treatment, stabilization of sulfide waste rock, and bench- and pilot-scale evaluations of water treatment approaches. Brian received his M.S. in Metallurgical/Mineral Processing Engineering from Montana Tech and a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in MT, OK, MN, and PA.
